Confession, I’ve never been a big fan of New Year’s Eve. A a teenager I babysat every New Year’s Eve (note to teens: you can make bank on NYE babysitting). As an adult, I prefer to curl up on the couch with a glass of wine, a movie and a good book. My husband’s family, on the other hand, has a big family party every New Year. The kids stay up until midnight and everyone has a blast. If going out and partying isn’t your thing and you want to include the kids: here is how to have a kid friendly New Year’s Eve in New Orleans.
Kid Friendly New Year’s Eve In New Orleans and Jefferson Parish
Zoo Year’s Eve: Meet some Superheros, have some fun, and ring in the New Year at Noon from 10:30-1pm at the Audubon Zoo. Activities are included in the price of admission. There will also be ice skating at the zoo from 10:30-3:30pm on New Year’s Eve. Price is $5 for members and $7 for non-members.
Noon Year’s Eve: Make a noise maker and a party hat and ring in the New Year at Noon with a balloon drop and confetti! The fun happens at the Louisiana Children’s Museum from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm and the cost is $10 for non-members and $5 for members.
Laser Tag: All three local Laser Tag play places are open on New Years Eve!
- Area 51 Laser Tag on the Westbank is open from Noon -7pm. Get a Christmas Break Pass good for unlimited Laser Tag for $20.
- Laser Tag and Games in Metairie is open from 11 am – 5 pm.
- Adventure Quest in Elmwood is open from 10 am-9 pm
Bowling: AMF Lanes in Kenner is has a special family party package for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. For $21.99/person you get two hours of bowling, shoes, kid friendly food, and sparkling cider to toast.
Skating: Airline Skate Center is open from 1-4pm for Afternoon Family Skate. Cost is $5 per person.
Fireworks: If the kids can make it to midnight, there are bound to be fireworks all over Jefferson Parish. There will also be fireworks on the Mississippi River. We hear the Algeirs Levee is a great family friendly place to view them if you don’t want to battle the crowds downtown.
Fantasy in the Sky: Take a virtual trip to Walt Disney World for their New Year’s Eve Firework Display! Head over to the Disney Parks Blog for the live feed of Fantasy in the Sky starting at 11:45 Eastern Time (10:45 local time). We watched it last year and it’s amazing!
Stay Home: You can always stay home and ring in the new year your own special way. Either with a big family party like our family has or a simple low key celebration like this one from No Time for Flashcards. Check our our Kid Friendly New Year’s Eve Pinterest Board for more ideas.
Have a safe and Happy New Year!
