We all know it gets super hot here in Jefferson Parish. So what can we do to try to keep as cool as possible? Well lucky for you I have created a list of things around town to help with those summer blues.
Join a Club:
There are small swim clubs and neighborhood country clubs around every corner of Jefferson Parish. Here is a list of a few I put together for you.
Beach Club: 6000 Cleveland Place, Metairie. This club is located on Lake Ponchartrain in the quiet neighborhood of Country Club Estates and is on three acres. They offer swimming, tennis and a Fitness Center.
Bissonet-Maned Downs Country Club: 5400 Irving Street, Metairie. Bissonet is located behind Girard Playground off of W. Esplanade. They offer a swimming pool with two diving boards and four tennis courts.
Chateau Country Club : 3600 Chateau Blvd, Kenner. This larger club in Kenner has a golf course, a huge clubhouse, tennis courts and fitness center.
Green Acres Country Club: 5000 W.Napoleon Avenue, Metairie. This is a large club at the intersection of W.Napoleon has a large pool, clubhouse, fitness room, tennis and a nice large open space including play equipment and BBQ pits for families to spread out and enjoy summer.
Lakeside Country Club: 1520 Rose Garden Drive, Metairie. Found on the lake not far from Bonnabel Blvd, this club has a swimming pool, tennis courts, workout room and clubhouse.
Paradise Manor Community Club: 529 Sauve Rd, River Ridge. This club caters mainly to families in the River Ridge and Harahan area. Paradise Manor offers swimming, tennis, outdoor grilling area, and lots of family events.
Riverside Country Club: 329 Colonial Club Dr., Harahan. This family oriented club features a large swimming pool along with children’s pool, tennis court, outdoor grilling, and social events throughout the year.
Sunrise Community Club: 2208 Judith Street, Metairie. Conveniently located next to Lafreniere Park this seasonal club offers pools, tennis courts, clubhouse and social events.
Terrytown Country Club: 1785 Carol Sue Avenue, Terrytown. This JCCA swim club on the westbank offers a large pool. tennis courts, snack hut, and a large grassy play area.
Westgate Country Club: 2326 Iowa Avenue, Kenner. This family owned club offers social and recreational activities for everyone. Their ammenities include 5 ft BBQ pit and swimming pools.
Woodlake Estates Tennis and Swim Club: 82 Sequoia Street, Kenner. Woodlake offers a swimming pool with two diving boards, baby pool, tennis courts, large field area, and playground.
Larger Fitness Centers
Elmwood Fitness Center: 1200 S. Clearview Parkway, Harahan. This is the main location for Elmwood Fitness Center and it is huge. This location has three large lap pools, one indoors and two outdoors. As well as having the lap pools they also have recreational pools inside and out. All outdoor pools are heated in the winter. There is also a splash and play area for kids. And lets not forget that they are a full service fitness center with very many options.
East Jefferson YMCA: 6691 Riverside Drive, Metairie. East Jefferson location is equipped with a Seasonal Outdoor Pool, Indoor Walking Track, Spin Studio with 20 Bikes, Aerobics Studio, Rock Climbing Wall, Multi-Purpose Room, Child Care Room, and Fully Equipped Wellness Center.
Belle Chasse YMCA: 8101 LA-23, Belle Chasse. They have an oundo or Splash Park and Lap Pool, Youth and Teen Activity Centers, Child Care Center, Multi-purpose Rooms, Locker Rooms and a Café with fresh snacks and complimentary coffee.
Lafreniere Park Spray Park: 3000 Downs Blvd. Metairie. Located within the large park next to carousel is a fun little Spray park more for the younger kids. The cost is $5 per 90 minute session. It has 13 water features; 5 in-ground, 5 above ground and 3 water cannons.
Audubon Zoo’s Cool Zoo: 6500 Magazine St. New Orleans. The Cool Zoo is located inside the zoo. They just opened the Gator run-750 foot lazy river with two sand beaches, lounge chairs, four water cannons, two water curtains and jumping jets. Cool Zoo highlights include Gator Run, a huge alligator water slide, a spider monkey soaker, water-spitting snakes and more. There is also shaded seating, family restrooms, an expanded stroller area inside the splash park, a Snack N’ Splash concession stand and The Cool Shop carrying a variety of summertime necessities. To get into the cool zoo you first must have admission to the zoo and then tickets for the Cool Zoo is $12 for non-members/$10 for members.
Bayou Segnette Wave Pool: 7777 Westbank Expressway, Westwego. The wave pool is $10 per adult, $8 per child for the day and is first-come, first-served basis.
Woldenberg Rivefront Park: In front of the Aquarium of the Americas is a 90-foot linear water feature that is a the perfect place to take let kids run through to take a break from the heat.
Worth The Drive
White Sands Lake Day Beach: With a aqua park, beaches, boat rentals, this is a great place to spend the day as a family. $15 for adults and $10 for children 4 and up, gets you admission to the beach and aqua park for the whole day.
Abita Springs and Madeville Trailhead Splash Pads: Located on the Abita Spings and Mandeville Trailheads these splash pads feature dozens of water jets at different heights for kids and grown-ups to have fun and cool off. Best of all it’s FREE! Open dawn until dusk!
Water Playgrounds at Local State Parks: Tickfaw in Springfield, Fontainebleau in Mandeville, and St. Bernardin Braithwaite all have water playgrounds for kids and grown ups to cool off and play. Fees depend on the park, most are $2 a person. Water playgrounds are open Tuesdays-Sundays from 8am-8pm from April 1st to October 31st.
Mandeville Lakefront Splash Pad: This FREE splash pad is located on the lakefront!
Ormond Spray Park: 1901 Ormond Boulevard; Open Tuesday through Sunday from 1-6pm!
Buccaneer Bay: 4.5 Acre waterpark on the Gulf in Mississippi. Features a wave pool, water slides and kids play area.
Gulf Island Water Park: Located in Gulfport Mississippi. Gulf Islands has a wave pool, lazy river, water slides and a special area just for little kids to play and splash!
Blue Bayou Water Park: Just a short drive from New Orleans in Baton Rouge, Blue Bayou is a favorite of locals. Blue Bayou has multiple water slides, an area for little kids to splash, a wave pool and more.
Your own backyard
This is one of my favorite options for when it is so hot you don’t even want to leave your amazing AC… We love to connect our big ball sprinkler and set up our little pools every summer in our yard. My daughter recently started enjoying the water slide so that gets set up in our yard as well.
