As parents, it’s important that we spend time with each other that is separate from the kids. Date night can be a great thing for any relationship, but sometimes finances can put a damper on things. Here are five inexpensive date nights that won’t break the bank.
Inexpensive Date Nights
One of my favorite things to do is have a picnic. Grab a blanket and a cooler and head over to your local park. Or set up in your own backyard with candlelight after the children are in bed. You can actually make the food yourself to save extra money. Whatever the setting, picnics are a wonderful way to reconnect after a difficult day.
Dinner and a Movie
Yes, even the old dating standard can be made cheap. Call in an order from your favorite takeout place (extra points for delivery). Grab a movie from your local DVD kiosk or fire up your favorite streaming service. Cuddle together on the sofa together; afterwards, discuss what you both liked and disliked about the movie. You’ll be amazed at the great conversations that can come out of it.
Night Under the Stars
Stargazing is always a romantic activity. Unfortunately, we can only see a few with all the city lights. Attending a program at a planetarium is a great way to view the night sky. Although this may technically be a “date day” due to business hours, you’ll find that most planetariums are not expensive at all. You may even learn something new!
A Little Night Music
Many times, you’ll be able to find concerts in the area that are free or under $10. You’ll find a variety of options from park venues to more intimate settings. Extra points for outdoor concert–usually there are food trucks or vendors attending. Relax listening to your favorite tunes and just being together. It’s a great time to hold hands!
There’s nothing wrong with being young at heart. $20 can buy quite a few rounds of skee ball or the latest quiz show game. Bring out some friendly competitiveness, as well as blow off some steam. You may even find yourselves recording a love song if your local arcade has a song booth.
You don’t have to spend an outrageous amount of money every time you have a date night. You’ll find that the best date nights are the ones where you spend time with each other. Try something new next time you go out.
