Kissing the Crisis: Field Notes on Foul-Mouthed Babies, Disenchanted Women, & Careening into Middle Age by Kara Martinez Bachman
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Let me just put this out there first: I would not have said no to meeting Brad Pitt. That being said, I spent many moments giggling at the antics and commiserations lying within the pages of this true life story of a gal from Louisiana. “Big Ass Beers” pretty much had me ready to fall into the yesteryear memories of the French Quarter scene I have avoided since my kids were born. I simply could not imagine being thrown into the Renaissance world after reliving that magnificently horrifying first toe-dip into the lifestyle.
The “bar & grill loophole” had me shaking my head in agreement. I’m sure we’ve all had that questionable “but it IS a bar” moment when deciding on a hole-in-the-wall to grab a quick bite with kids in tow.
Having just been through the Irish-Italian parade season I can attest to the massive amounts of vegetables and random food items (among other things) you haul in at those parades and the agony of standing at the counter prepping these veggies for soups, stews, boils, and freezer meals to come. Need some ideas to use up these vegetables? Check out our post on slow cooker meals using St. Patrick’s Day Parent Veggies.
So many things we call normal may be side-eyed by moms in other towns but we know these things all too well. While I may not be quite at middle age (let’s be honest, middle age crises can strike at any time), I found myself sympathizing with some of the strife and turmoil the author found herself in. Grab a copy, spend a few hours reliving these stories, and then tell me what you thought! And tell the truth… would you have turned down meeting Brad Pitt?
